Ironically, it was the death of music idol, rock and roll legend Elvis Presley, which brought McDowell into the spotlight. Mere hours after Presley passed away, McDowell and the late Le Morgan co-wrote “The King Is Gone,” McDowell recorded it and the song became an overnight smash hit – selling several million copies – and catapulted McDowell to music stardom. Throughout the ‘80’s, he had many other self-penned songs that turned into hits, including “I Love You, I Love You, I Love You,” “World’s Most Perfect Woman,” “Watchin’ Girls Go By” and “All Tied Up.” McDowell’s singing voice sounds so remarkably similar to Presley’s that he was selected as the voice for the ABC TV-movie “Elvis And The Beauty Queen,” starring Don Johnson as Elvis. Again, his voice was used on the television film “Elvis And Me,” in 1988 which was based on Priscilla Presley’s book. And Priscilla personally selected McDowell to perform the music for the ABC television series about the early years of Elvis’ career, titled simply, “Elvis.” The live musical tribute to the memory of the King will feature Ronnie McDowell along with former Elvis band members, Scotty Moore, D.J. Fontana and The Jordanaires. Related Links:
