City Texas Hold’em is a Monster Success for UCP
The
Largest Texas Hold’em Charity Tournament in U.S. gives United Cerebral Palsy
$90,900
April
9th and 10th, 2005 at the Grand Casino Tunica, professional poker player
Clonie Gowen and 480 players competed in the Inaugural Bluff City Texas
Hold’em Open. The two day event raised over $90,000 for United Cerebral
Palsy (UCP) of the Mid-South and is currently the largest live Texas Hold’em
charity poker tournament in the U.S.
 Saturday’s
first place winner of a seat to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) was Chris
Wiggins, of Memphis TN. Krystal Nelson, the only female to make the final
table, is owner of Gamble’s Clothing and Gifts in Tunica MS and won Sunday’s
first place seat to the WSOP. Both grand prize winners played for over 10
hours and competed against the area’s best poker players, including many
professionals.
Clonie
Gowen, Bluff City Texas Hold’em Open headliner and winner of the 2003 World
Poker Tour Ladies Night, played great both days; but was unable to make her
way to the final table. She was also available to guests and autographed
hundreds of items. At the start of Saturday’s tournament, Clonie made
herself a “Wanted” player by offering a $100 bounty to the player who could
take her out. Three hours into the tournament, Richard Johnston won the
bounty, which he received during Sunday’s tournament. After finishing play
both days, Clonie moved her way through the audience, discussing playing
strategies with many participants.
Saturday and Sunday’s Final Table included local and
international players. The Bluff City Texas Hold’em Open is sponsored by
the Grand Casino Tunica, FM100, 93X, AM790, The Good Times Show, Jackpot
Magazine, thepokerlounge.net, Newby’s and Click’s
