Gold Strike Casino Hosts World Poker Open Media Event
Jackpot Magazine Scores Again
(the tale of 2 kings)
by Jen

January 8th Gold Strike casino hosted a media Texas Hold'Em Tournament to kick off the 2006 WPO event in Tunica Resorts. The invited players were from the local media, internet poker media, and some not so local media which made for an interesting mix.

Some of the players I would have considered "pros" some had never played Texas Hold'Em before....ever.

Among the players for this tournament was David Grisham (you know David, if you don't you have read his articles in Jackpot magazine...yeah him!)  David won the WSOP media tournament we had played in just days before at Grand Casino. I had congratulated him again mentioning that his Good Luck came from his lovely wife, Laura, who was there to support him. Here we are at another tournament and David brings his Good Luck Lady and some of us become fearful as we predict David is on a winning streak. As in all gambling "Lady Luck" plays a huge part in the outcome.

The soon to be champion, Rudi Schiffer, was at our table in the beginning. He complained a lot about all of the women at his table and begged to be moved. Didn't happen, he was stuck. Rudi is a tough one to play with even though he claims to only be a blackjack player we suspect different. Laura Gibson from WMC-TV mentions "We need to vote Rudi off the island for next year". We all pretty much agree but we had no idea Rudi was going to end up the winner of the tournament and leave with the gorgeous prize bracelet we all drooled over.
note all the diamonds...hope you can see them

The final table was tough going.
Lots of "pros" as the rest of us called them. Down to three, Brad Clay of midsouthpoker.com, Kaelaine of PokerPages.com and Rudi Schiffer of Jackpot Magazine. All three went all in. Lady Luck (aka Laura) was holding Rudi's hand, and yup you guessed it, he won with a pair of Queens!
Now this means that out of two media poker tournaments in less than a week, Jackpot Magazine walks off with both championships. Congratulations Jackpot Magazine. (I wonder if this means those two will get a raise)

Gold Strike treated the players with a goodie bag which included a fifth of Crowne Royal with a special WPO label and some really cool stuff. After the tournament we all enjoyed a reception with food fit for a king from the kitchen of Executive Chef Andrew Smith. (Two thumbs up Chef Andrew)
Sunday night was a fun filled event. Actually it was wild and a real roller coaster ride. Thanks to Gold Strike (Mary and Robin) for putting on a fabulous event.

When Rudi Schiffer was presented with his wins (WPO jacket, cash, and THE gold bracelet)...he takes a moment to make a count as Kenny Lambert and Mary Cracchiolo Look on.
