Mhoon Landing
In 1990 Mississippi Legalized Gambling. In October of 1992 the first casino to open in Tunica County was Splash Casino located at Mhoon Landing about 4 miles west of the Town of Tunica. Since 1992 Tunica County has experience what is called the "Tunica Miracle". Approximately 18,000 new jobs since 1992 have been created as a result of the Casino Industry. The Boom has taken away the title Tunica County carried as the highest employment and poorest county with a 13.6 unemployment rate.
The casinos moved to the Northern Region of the county near Robinsonville, MS. Which is now called Tunica Resorts, MS located in Tunica County, Mississippi.
The casinos are not in the town of Tunica, in fact they are located out among the cotton fields in the County of Tunica along the Mississippi River.
The Mississippi Gambling Law requires the casinos to be on water. You have to look really close at most of the casinos to see that they are actually built on barges and are floating in water. The Grand Casino is the most obvious, others you have to take a minute and look for the water. The Casino hotels, service areas, and most restaurants are built on land adjacent to the actual casinos.
The Casino Resort Area, Tunica Resorts, MS, is located 17 miles from the Memphis, Tennessee City Limits.
