Gold Strike Casino
Resort brings high-stakes poker action back to Tunica as the area’s
exclusive property and host of the televised 2008 WORLD POKER TOUR® (WPT).
Beginning Jan. 3, Gold Strike welcomes players and fans for three weeks of
World Poker Open action all leading up to the main event January 20-24.
“Gold
Strike is a venue rich in tradition, history and legendary final table
action, which is why we continue to see top players— local and global—return
each year to battle it out for the title,” said Steve Lipscomb, CEO and
founder of WPT Enterprises, Inc. Many of the top
players are expected to attend this year along with lesser known yet equally
eager players including last year’s champion Bryan Sumner. Bryan shocked
the poker world in record-breaking final table action by defeating former
WPT champion, Daniel Negreanu.
“This tournament brings the best in the game of poker from the television to
the table and seats them next to everyday ordinary people,” states Ken
Lambert, director of Poker for both Gold Strike and sister MGM MIRAGE
property, Beau Rivage. “There is nothing like it anywhere in Tunica.”
This is the ninth year Gold Strike serves as host of the World Poker Tour in
Tunica. Along with the top money prize the winner also takes home the
championship bracelet valued at $5,000, and a much sought-after $25,000 seat
in the WPT World Championship held annually in Las Vegas.
